Electronics is one of the major branches of electrical engineering and involves working with circuit boards etc.

Candidates usually need some knowledge of the behaviour of electrons and components such as capacitors, diodes, resistors and transistors. Job duties usually involve discussing proposals with clients, working with work colleagues to create new systems, circuits and devices or to develop existing components. Also testing, writing specifications, product compatibility with other devices, creating user friendly interfaces and ensuring safety regulations are met. There will always be project planning and the preparing of budgets, attending meetings with sub-contractors or supervising technicians and craftspeople. Another big part of an electrical job is writing technical reports.

There are 2 main types of graduate electronic engineer. Firstly there is a Chartered engineer (CEng) with responsibility for engineering projects. Chartered engineer develop solutions to problems. Secondly Incorporated engineers (IEng) who take responsibility for specific areas of an electrical project. They maintain applications of current and also developing technologies.

Electronics engineers research, design and develop as well as test systems. They develop all types of equipment, including acoustics, defence equipment, medical instruments, mobiles, nanotechnology, radio and satellite communications and robotics. Other areas are instrumentation, signal processing and telecommunications engineering.
